By Lee
Romans 7:15 (NIV1984) “15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do”
Have you ever felt like Paul did in Romans 7:15? I certainly have. I believe that every believer who is striving to serve God has this type of struggle going on. Paul also spoke of a “war within” that caused some turmoil as well. I believe that anyone who serves God will be attacked by our enemy the devil. You see, if the devil can keep your mind occupied with negative thoughts, he can keep your mind off the things of God. So many times we get trapped by these types of things and begin to make excuses for NOT doing what we could do, when as believer’s we should be looking for things we can do for God. There are always excuses for why we CAN’T do something, we need to not let the enemy keep us distracted from what God has planned for us. It robs not only God of using us to help others and be a blessing to Him, but it robs US from being blessed as well. I have said for years that if the devil can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy! At this point you might ask, well what do we do about it? Good question, I’m glad you asked! There are two steps from scripture that I would recommend. The first is found in James chapter 4 verse 7. It says, “submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” This step is key! We must resist him that draws our attention away from God’s plan. Once we have our minds cleared from the negative attack the second step puts us back on track. Step two is also from Paul and is found in his letter to the Phillipians. In Phillipians 3:13-14 Paul states,”13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
What great advice from a man who knew all too well the attack of the enemy personally and its effect on the church of God. Let’s not let the enemy have one more minute of our precious time! We have much to do for the Lord before his eminent return! Forget the past and press on into God!
